Student Cadets of the week
Senior- Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Lexi Talamantes
Lexi has distinguished herself through her exceptional service as a Cadre member, Inspector General, and Marksmanship Commander. Demonstrating a profound commitment to mentorship, Cadet Talamantes directly upervises and guides the PJHS cadets within her flight, actively shaping the future leaders of the AFJROTC program through her work with the 8th-grade curriculum. As Inspector General, she guides the cadet leadership team in executing the annual self-assessment and managing daily checklists, ensuring the unit consistently exceeds management inspection rubric standards.
Junior- Cadet Captain Makayla Morquecho
Makayla has distinguished herself through outstanding leadership, dedication, and service as Logistics Commander, Military Model Building Commander, and a vital member of the Saber Team. As Logistics Commander, Cadet Morquecho meticulously managed a $300,000 inventory and spearheaded a highly successful uniform initiative. Her exceptional organizational skills ensured that 100% of the cadet corps received proper attire for physical fitness, formal events, and daily operations.
Sophomore-Cadet Staff Sergeant Atreyu Castillo (not pictured)
Atreyu has distinguished himself through outstanding service as a Color Guard member and as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of the Flight Simulator and Drone program. Cadet Castillo’s selfless dedication to his unit has driven several notable Color Guard performances, including high-profile presentations at the homecoming parade and varsity football games. Demonstrating a strong commitment to community engagement, he also served on the Honor Guard team selected to raise the colors for the grand opening of Whataburger in Pearsall, Texas. As the Flight Simulator and Drone NCOIC, Cadet Castillo directly assists his commander in managing pilot simulations. Through this leadership role, he actively prepares the next generation of aviators for successful careers in commercial, private, and military aviation. Furthermore, his exceptional physical conditioning earned him the prestigious Gold Star during the Physical Fitness Test, where he scored in the 97th percentile—placing him in the highest tier of cadets within the wellness program. In recognition of his exemplary leadership, community service, and athletic excellence, it is with great distinction that Cadet Staff Sergeant Atreyu Castillo is awarded Student of the Week.
Freshman- Cadet Staff Sergeant Asa Valenzuela
Asa has distinguished herself through outstanding performance as the Bravo Flight Sergeant. She consistently executes her daily duties with precision while expertly co-managing her flight. Demonstrating both exceptional followership and a proactive willingness to lead, Cadet Valenzuela has successfully commanded the entire flight in the absence of her flight commander. As a supervisor, she excels by maintaining an impeccable military image and embodying the Air Force Core Values. Due to her steadfast determination to excel within the Air Force Junior ROTC Program, it is with great distinction that Cadet Staff Sergeant Valenzuela is awarded Student of the Week.

Angelina Ortiz
Angelina's ELA Teacher Mrs. Wiza nominated Angelina becasue she ALWAYS goes out of her way to make sure all the chairs are picked up at the end of the day so the custodians have an easier job for cleaning. Not only does this help me, this helps our custodial crew! She will ask me everyday, "Do you want me to pick up your chairs?" She is a model of kindness and thoughtfulness.
Leo Lomeli
Cadet Airman First Class Leonardo Lomeli was nominated Leo becasue he consistently exemplifies the core value of service before self. His dedication to his peers is evident daily, from simple acts of courtesy—such as holding doors open for fellow students—to actively mentoring newer cadets within the AFJROTC program. Cadet Lomeli demonstrates exceptional versatility, seamlessly transitioning between leadership and followership roles to best support his team.
Furthermore, he upholds the highest standards of the Air Force JROTC by ensuring his peers wear their uniforms properly and with pride, gently correcting infractions when necessary. His unwavering commitment to helping his team maximize its potential makes him a vital asset to our unit.

Adrian is a sophomore who is doing AMAZING things here at PHS! He is an all-around prime example of what it means to be a student-athlete. Adrian consistently makes those around him feel included, valued, and welcomed, and his positive attitude is noticed by both his peers and staff.
Recently, Adrian stepped up to take on the role of a behind-the-scenes cameraman at our home football games, and he did an excellent job! 🎥🏈 He saw an opportunity, took initiative, and contributed to the success of our school events.
Adrian’s willingness to get involved, support his school, and step up when needed truly sets him apart. He is an outstanding student-athlete, teammate, and role model for others at PHS.

Officer Gandara is a valued and visible presence on our campus. He makes it a priority to regularly interact with students, building positive relationships and creating a sense of safety and trust throughout the school. His open-door policy allows students and staff to feel comfortable approaching him whenever they need support or assistance. In addition to his responsibilities, he is always willing to lend a helping hand to our office staff when needed. His approachable nature, willingness to serve, and commitment to our students make him an important part of our school community. We truly appreciate all that he does to support our students and staff each day.

Freshman Kori Brown and Sophomore Evalynn Rosales were nominated by their Spanish Teacher Mrs. Veliz for being amazing, hardworking students.
Junior Jayden Garza was nominated by Mrs. Rivers because he is a helpful student to teachers and to other students in class. He is engaged, he participates, and he always puts a creative twist on all our assignments.
Senior Allura Santos was nominated by Mrs. Rivers becasue she shows up and gives her best effort to everything she does. She is talented, but even in areas that she finds difficult or when we are learning new things, she is willing to put time and focus in to learn. Allura is incredibly creative, helpful, and brings a cheery attitude to class every single day.
Caught being Kind
Aiden Saldivar was nominated by Mrs. Leeann Elizondo for his willingness to help others. When he noticed that Mrs. Elizondo needed assistance carrying boxes, he immediately jumped in to lend a helping hand. His thoughtfulness, awareness, and willingness to help without being asked demonstrate the kind of kindness and character we want to see in our students. We are proud of Aiden for being a student who looks for opportunities to help others!
Johnny Gutierrez was nominated by Mrs. Baker for demonstrating responsibility and respect for our school community. After lunch, when the other students left a mess behind, Johnny took the initiative to clean up his table. His willingness to do the right thing, even when no one asked him to, shows great character and pride in his school. We are proud of Johnny for setting a positive example for others!
