School Finance Commission adopts final report
The Texas Commission on Public School Finance met for the final time on Dec. 19 to discuss the final recommendations from the working groups and to vote unanimously in favor of the final report as amended. Highlights in the final report included removing language noting the state decline in per-pupil funding, focusing on additional state resources for early education and third-grade literacy, and calling for incentive grants on top of weight adjustments for prekindergarten, college career and military readiness, and teacher merit pay programs. The commission did not make a final recommendation endorsing any property tax relief option, but instead put forward three ideas that included Gov. Greg Abbott’s plan for a 2.5 percent cap on annual property tax revenue growth. Read the final report.
